Finally, a replacement for a 75w halogen Par30Reviewed by K. Strong, 2009-09-28
I have tried many different Par30 CFLs over the years and none were
acceptable until I tried this one. We have white cabinets and we
like to keep these lights on at least 12 hours a day and my wife is
VERY particular as to the color cast. All other bulbs were either
not bright enough or too blue or too green. This is the only bulb I
have been able to find ANYWHERE that my wife will allow me to use
in our overhead kitchen recessed lighting fixtures. Yes, it may
take a little time for the bulb to reach full brightness, but so do
most CFLs and since we keep it on, that is not a huge issue (tho
they do seem to take longer than other CFLs I have used).
It could stand to be brighter. I cannot tell, but the wife says
they are not as bright as the 75 watt halogen bulbs were, but she
is willing to adjust (by turning on more lights).
Good replacement for halogenReviewed by B. Valentine, 2008-02-16
I bought these to replace par30 75w halogen bulbs that I have in
many places of my 1980's built house. The can lights that I used
these in are the fisheye adjustable type that was used heavily in
the '80s. These work just fine in those type of cans.
The light output of these is very comparable to the 75w par30
halogen floods. The brightness is roughly the same - these might be
a little brighter - but hard to notice the difference. These are
also a little bit sharper in light, i.e. more of a silver than the
yellow of a soft white halogen but pretty close.
They do come on instantly but take roughly a minute to fully warm
up and come up to full light. The result is they will look like you
have dimmed them to about 50% when you first turn them on cold and
then they will get to full output in about a minute.
They are longer than the par30 halogens. If you look at the picture
of the bulb on this page, the normal halogen when placed side by
side will only extend down to bottom of the white ceramic part of
this bulb. So these bulbs are about 2" longer than the standard
par30 halogen. This was fine for my application as I had the room
in the can for them but they might be too long for some
applications.
All in all, I am happy with them as I replaced 40, yes 40, bulbs in
my house with these, therefore the savings in wattage will be
significant enough to put up with the slight differences from the
halogens.
